B Ocean Resort sits 6 miles from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Sun-seekers can stake their umbrellas in the sand along the property's private beach or claim a spot along two outdoor swimming pools.
B Ocean Resort’s beachfront location bodes well for its unique ship-like exterior (if you squint just right, it almost seems as if the hotel is a beached vessel). The hotel's main tower stands mid-ship, while the glass-fronted guest rooms cascade down the sides, much like cabins on a cruise ship. Originally built in 1956 by beach hotel pioneer Bob Gill, Jr., the property spent its first life as the Yankee Clipper, hosting folks like Mickey Mantle, Marilyn Monroe, and the Yankees. The hotel’s historic, wooden Wreck Bar was featured in the Robert De Niro movie "Analyze This."
For dinner and a show, opt instead for the tiki-inspired cocktails and delicious seafood dishes at the Wreck Bar, where weekly aqua performances are put on by living mermaids.

The historic Wreck Bar is part of the original hotel design and resembles the inside of a wooden ship. The nautical theme is strong, though it’s the underwater mermaid shows that are the biggest draw. The back of the bar is built against one of the hotel's pools, and patrons can watch both family-friendly and burlesque-style B Ocean Resort mermaid shows through the glass.
Most notably the panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Fort Lauderdale beaches. Floor-to-ceiling glass gave us breathtaking views.
One of the best reasons to book a stay at B Ocean, Fort Lauderdale is the incredible beach amenities. Included with your $39 resort fee, guests will receive beach lounge chairs and other amenities.
Get away from the stress of daily life in the B Indulged Spa Suite, where you can be pampered with a relaxing massage, aromatherapy or hot stone therapy. Alternatively, work out in the state-of-the-art, 24-hour fitness center at B Ocean Resort.
In 2014, the B Ocean group took over and gave the hotel a modern makeover that was completed in 2017. Tasteful interiors combine ocean and beach elements with a sophisticated color palette -- think bubbled glass light fixtures, natural wood elements, and local artwork in blue hues.
The hotel is less than 15 minutes by car from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport. Those looking to go to Miami can reach the airport in just over 30 minutes by car and South Beach in 45 minutes.

Bottom line: Worth it?
The hotel and beach were great. The standard rooms were overpriced, but a much better value if you get a suite. It's in a great location, good area. The front staff was pretty good. You must watch for hidden fees though like the $50 daily parking fee!
The Mermaid Show at the Wreck Bar is a must-see even if you're not staying at the hotel. This bar and the show were featured in Robert DeNiro's movie "Analyze This". I highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
The good thing about the B Resort is that it's 3.3 miles from the Fort Lauderdale Cruiseport via Eisenhower Blvd. It cost $15 for a cab for two of us plus a $5 tip. You can also walk downtown to shops and restaurants from the hotel.
I give the B Resort a rating of 7.2 out of 10.

The Bathroom had a mirror at an angle that let you look at the toilet from anywhere in the room. So no privacy.
The hardware holding the shower parts together
Was broken. The phone did not work.
The hotel is not well maintained.
The “spa” so touted on the webpage is non existent. Only by appointment massage.
